Velké Přílepy lies in the Praha-západ District, about 12 km north-west of central Prague. In 2025, the municipality had around 3,600 residents.

The first written mention of Velké Přílepy dates to 1228, when the settlement belonged to the Chapter of St Vitus. The municipality has no parish church of its own. On the road towards Noutonice and Okoř stand the Chapel of the Virgin Mary, dating from 1725, and the Neo-Romanesque Chapel of St Gothard, dating from 1880.
